CHUNG CHENG HIGH LAKE

Chung Cheng High School’s elegant and grand lake is a popular icon of the school. The beautiful lake is identified with the school’s public image and emblematic of its ideals. Originally, it had an impressive size of approximately 14000m2, however, its scale has since be reduced as the school grounds have been redeveloped over the years. Still, the lake remains a cherished landmark, enduring the last of its original architectural features. It has a delightful boating opportunities and idyllic atmosphere has been more than just a unique and charming property feature. The lake’s history is deeply intertwined with the school’s having witnessed its evolution over the years. Cultural, intellectual and social activities have been organised by the water edge.  Aet within lush grounds, the lake with it’s serene and restorative presence offered unparallelled inspiration for writers, poets, dramatists artists, scholars and politicians, many of whom were reputed alumni of the school. Standing near the lake and just viewing at the AWESOME environment will definitely give you that great feeling that you want!

ZHU LIN BUILDING

Zhu Lin Building is the main building of Chung Cheng High which is named officially after someone called Zhuang Zhulin. Dr Zhuang Zhulin is the founding principal and also the principal of Nanyang University. After World War 2, he was re-appointed principal. Zhuang Zhulin live from 1939-1957. This building, which was named after him, house the Grand Auditorium now. The Grand Auditorium was the largest in the Southeast Asia when it opened by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. In 1965, there was a ground breaking ceremony by Mr Goh Tjioe Kok. Actually, in 1968, the schjool library was transferred to the Grand Auditorium, occupying 4 levels, as the school had amassed a vant collection of rare and precious books since theie inception in 1939. THis was mainly through efforts of Dr. Zhuang Zhulin. However, the books had to weather the Japanese Occupation and were only spared because of the brave and swift actions of Mr Zhaung, who hid 4 cartloads of precious books and articles in a Buddhist Temple. It can fit all the students in the school into that gigantic hall! There is 2 levels to the hall too. Also, the table tennis court is also held under the Grand Auditorium. Just see how big the Grand Audi is! In the Zhu Lin building, the general office is also located there. Lastly, there is also many interesting ghost stories that is being rumoured in the Zhu Lin Building since the school has so many years of history!

GE WU BUILDING

To meet growing demands for better facilities, the school embarked on an upgrading programme in the early 90s. With the completion of the 1st phase of redevelopment in 1992,the Craft-cum-Technical Complex was added which is now called Gewu Building.

HAO RAN BUILDING

In 2007, the I-cafe was also launched showcasing the strong partnership between the school and the PSG (parent-support-group). There are also many delicious stalls in the canteen such as Snacks, Drinks, Muslim, Green Dot, Japanese, Western, Chicken Rice, Noodles and the Bee Hoon stalls. There is also CCHMS popular located near the I-cafe which sells many useful things which students need. Also, on the second level is where the multi purpose hall is located.

ZHUO PU BUILDING

The third phase to redevelopment ended with having 16 classrooms in the Zhuo Pu Building completed in 1999.

HONG DAO BUILDING

Due to its consistently good performance in the GCE 'O' Level Examinations, the school achieved an autonomous status in 1996. The 2nd phase of redevelopment was completed in 1997 with a newly built 32-classroom block.

OTHER FACILITIES

There are many other outdoor places too. There is a full and half netball court , a soccer field and 2 outdoor basketball courts which are all near the lake!

Environment

In July 2003, the heritage gallery was opened by Chan Soo Sen, Minister of State of Education. It has historical artefacts, photographs and IT presentations.

Now, Chung Cheng High School Main (CCHMS) has a branch school, Chung Cheng High School Yishun (CCHY) located at Yishun St. 61. CCHMS is now located at Goodman Road.

CCHMS is renowned for its lake, known as the Zhongzheng Lake. The size has been reduced by about two-thirds by several school-expansion programmes since the 1950s. The recent phase of upgrading cost CCHMS around $70 million. The renovation of several buildings, such as the Administration Building. The new extension is built on a portion of the lake, with part of the building extending into the lake.

The third phase of the school development ended in 1999. After the completion of the 32 classroom block in 1995, a 320-seater lecture theatre was also added in. Other facilities such as computer laboratories, a Media Resource Library, Science Laboratories, a music room, complete with learning hardware and software, with other special rooms were also built. Facilities such as tennis courts, a street soccer court and a lake amidst a lawn added character and style to the sprawling campus.

 The Grand Hall, was also refurbished with new seats and parquet flooring, increasing its seating capacity to 2000.

Now, each classrooms have air-cons to provide the students with better conducive learning environment.
